Half Marathon Training Tips: Lessons I Learned In My First Weeks

In my first few weeks of running, I’ve gathered some half marathon training tips for beginners that I’d like to share. I share my thoughts in my instagram post here:
Post Run Tans
I don’t necessary recommend running in 80+ degree weather. But if you know me personally you know that my goal is to become as Black as possible. The Blacker the better babbyyy.
So when I took this before & after photo above and saw that tan. Let me just say I was excited to say the least. It actually isn’t cool or a flex to put your body through so much pain to run in warm weather. I am just a little bit insane. I aso just really wanted to feel the sun burn on my skin. It was absurd. Don’t do it. But hey if you do, you can get a tan.
Time to UP Protein And Carbs
As Ive mentioned in previous post here, I do have a history of disordered eating. Although I have come a long way, I’m going to be honest. I sill struggle with getting in enough calories.
But it’s costing me. Since I can end up being really nit picky standards, I don’t calorie count. BUT I want to be more international about increasing my protein intake for sure. Not eating enough is going to keep impacting my running progress and I don’t want that.
So one of my biggest half marathon training tip for beginner is figuring out how to incorporate more carbs and protein in your diet.
Cook Before Lung Runs
Part of my undereating is tied to simply being too tired and lazy to cook. Cooking is a lot of work, especially when you live by yourself. But I’ve relaized that tricking myself to think that cooking is an art project does the trick for me. Thinking, “ooo these spices is like a colorful palette on a painting board”. I’m joking, please don’t say that. But still it has become much more fun to me when I just put on some youtube in the background and think – let’s do art instead of “let’s cook” .
Need To Start Mobility Exercises
Half Marathon Training Tips for Beginners has to include one of my least favorite activities – stretching. But I have a confession. I am the world’s worst stretcher. I admit it. I know how embarrassing. I actually hate stretching because it hurts and it’s uncomfortable. But after running so much and my legs wanting to fall off my body, I know it’s time to switch it up for real. I need to take stretching more seriously. So I’m going to prioritize learning stretches I can do before and/or after these runs – even if it’s uncomfortable.
