Storyteller Summer Watch List: Must Watch Shows & Movies This Q3 2026
I know what you may be wondering – what is the point of a storyteller summer watch list? Well . I feel like one of the best ways to grow in storytelling is by watching or reading other amazing stories. Since I am releasing a youtube video this Sunday on starting storyteller athlete summer training camp, it feels fitting to share this storyteller summer watch list. I have watched all of these shows/movies this year and highly recommend them!
Man On Fire
If you are a lover of the Night Agent you will LOVE Man on Fire. Wow. I was seaatedddd the entire time. I know a story is good when I don’t want it to end. I learned 2 storytelling tips from this show. First of all, I should try more low level shots. I noticed that quite often, the camera would be placed a low level but would be titled upwards to show the subject. There was something about that angle that added character and suspense that I want to try adding.
Secondly, they did a unique job making you feel for both the protagonist and the villain. Some characters made decisions that weren’t good but since we were given more context about the characters’ life struggles, you didn’t leave hating any character. In fact, you had more empathy for them. You ended up rooting for everybody.
So my question for us is – how can we create more stories that allow us to feel more empathy for all characters regardless of their good or bad decisions?
You, Me & Tuscany
Y’all I am not a romance fan. I don’t like romance books or movies. In fact I am surprised I am adding this movie to my storyteller summer watch list BUT this movie was mad cute. Of course the one and only Halle Barry is in it so you know it was good. I talk about this in my youtube video above but this movie was deeper than romance. It was about a girl who was trying to be something else in so many areas of her life including romance. It made me think about this question. What are areas of our lives where we are trying to be something we aren’t and how is that bleeding into everything we do?
Nemesis
Warning: don’t watch the trailer, it spoils a little bit too much. I hadn’t watched the trailer so when I tell y’all I was shookkk?!?! because I didn’t know what to expect. Similiar to Man on Fire, I am telling you this movie had me not wanting to stop watching it. In fact afterwards I was inspired to make a fiction crime book.
Screen Time
Of course Issa Rae came out with a genius tv episodes on tiktok split into multiple parts. Issa continues to do what she does best – mixing storytelling with comedy and a lil suspense. The whole time I was amazed by the coloring and how it was shot. So when I found out Brittney Janae was the Director of Photography ( I featured her in my women storytellers you must follow series), I was not surprised at all.
