why you should train for a duathalon (nah, this ain’t what you think it is)

quarter life crisis
So – guess who decided that the most logical solution to a quarter life crisis is to train for a duathalon? And who also thinks you should train for a duathalon to wash your problems away?
Me and me.
But in all seriousness, I saw an article that said that people in their 20s are becoming marathon runners to cope with their quarter life crisis. Please here me loud and clear – this is NOT a plea to start running a marathon. My goodness – no. That is not my ministry.
“But Ayomide you ran a half marathon isn’t that the same thing?”
Before you think I am just a hypocritical annoyance I would like to argue that a half marathon is no where nearly as diabolical as a marathon. Granted, I do have great admiration for those who decide to go on these wild feats of thrill and self induced pain. I hope by now you realize I am being humorous. I am in no way hating on the concept of marathon running. It’s truly admirable but for me that is where I finally draw the line in the sand and say “Nah I’m good”
But anyways – where was I? Oh yes – talking about training for a duathalon. I hope by now you’re chuckling because what sense does it make to criticize marathon running yet praise the idea of biking and then long running twice? You must be thinking – “girl, you are illogical AND hypocritical” Well, yes I am. You can call it that I guess but I call it – facing a new challenge.
boredom in everyday life
In this season of life, I am finding myself particularly bored. What I do in real life in the day simply does nothing for me except make me want to find the nearest bed to sleep on immediately afterwards. There is nothing wrong with living a boring life. In fact, I believe that is the norm we are all called to live in. The mundane. The everyday. But in the midst of the everyday, I find myself itching for a new challenge
So maybe this will be my new challenge – a lil duathalon training? and maybe also committing to writing a blog every week till the end of the year because… yolo?
find a new challenge like train for a duathalon
I’m sure you’re wondering – Ayomide where are you going with this? I don’t get the point of this blog post. Well, the point is that I am writing it at work while bored and sometimes while being bored, you are more motivated to do some weird stuff – like committing to running a duathalon or maybe deciding to pick up that thing again that gives you peace when your mind feels dead – like writing a weekly blog.
And maybe I’m calling you to do the same.
So no this isn’t a blog where I try to explain why you should train for a duathalon. It’s really just a way to encourage you in your boredom, to pick up something new. Then see what you create in the meantime. Pay attention to how that new thing makes you feel and helps the boring thing more bearable.
You may be surprised by what you find. Because in that boredom, you might find that peace and clarity you’ve been looking for all along.
