What To Expect At The Black Girl Art Show

So…. if you go to the Black Girl Art Show, what should you expect and look forward to? Well I have been able to go to the Black Girl Art Show in NYC last year and in Chicago in 2024. In the spirit of posting about artistry on this blog, it’s fitting that I share tips, ideas and tricks to navigate this show. I am making this article because when I first wanted to attend a Black Girl Art Show, I knew I was excited but wanted to know what to expect. However, I couldn’t find a lot of information so I am giving you some insiders. I am keeping this short because there isn’t TOO much to say – except I do give some tips on how to navigate.
Get Tickets Early Or Get In For Free
So I am pretty sure the NYC tickers ran out in like 48 hours? I may be exaggerating but I do remember it was maddd quick. But then later on they released more tickets so people could attend. The only caveat though is that people were only able to attend during a certain time period. And the tickets were WAY more expensive. So I was conflicted but then I found another way to get in – become a volunteer. As a volunteer, to be honest I didn’t do that much. I helped bring the artists to the stage and then had fun. But I did sign up to be there for the whole day so I was there from the morning until 9pm. Yes, the day was mad long but I got in for free and a time was had indeed.
When Is the Best Time To Arrive?
It depends on what vibe you are going for. If you want hecticness, lots of noise, hustle and bustle then I would say mid afternoon. I felt like I had the most fun during that time but also I am an extrovert. However, if you want calm and relaxation, come in the evening.
Get Ready To Party
To be honest, I wasn’t sure if this was the Black Girl Art Show or the Black Girl Art party at some point. It felt like a non stop party form morning to night. The DJ was absolutely fire and had such a good mix from SOCA to R&B to hip hop.
We danced and danced and danced. I did not expect that. I mean I expected good music but I didn’t know I was going to feel like I was at a cookout. I unfortunately had to leave the Black Girl Art Show Chicago early but I felt similar vibes when I was there. They also have amazing performers. I have one word for the performerrrrsss – wowwwww. One girl sang so good somebody threw the wallet on the floor. Once again – something I didn’t expect
Art Vendors
Of course, the artist vendors are so unique and plenty. Well – it is called the Black Girl Art Show for a reason. For example, in Chicago, I got two hats that I am truly obsessed with. One says the word ‘Create’ which encourages me to be a creator over a consumer. Then in NYC, I got a fire jean jacket with dope art, a cute bag and saw a vendor that had the coolest purse bags. This jean jacket has the image above on the back of it. It has truly become one of my favorite jean jackets. The creator of this jacket’s instagram Is @olivia.mumzelle.designs. Check out her work or maybe even purchase a jacket for yourself 🙂
So overall, what should you expect at the Black Girl Art Show? Simply – a good ole time.
