My 2 Favorite & Most Creative NYC Braiding Spots

On instagram, I posted about my 2 favorite & creative NYC braiding spots. But here I wanted to go in further detail of why as part of my lifelong Hair As Art Series. First of all – both of these creative NYC braiding spots. A coincidence? I think not!

1. Jamilah Beauty Studios

Whenever I get braids done here, people overly compliment my braids. I think it’s because the style they do their braids is so unique. It’s so creative to me because their braids are done so cleanly. The braids also feel light and the braiders don’t braid hard at all in my opinion. The hair that I got was the grey blend of 2 & 613 shown in the image above.

Their new location is also SO cute. They have a menu if you want food, wifi, a bath robe with the name “Jamilah Studios” on it. It felt like a spa experience but for braid. I am going to be honest though – they can be on the pricier end depending on what you get. If you get Black braids to the waist, I think it can be $200. But when you want to start adding colors and increasing the length that is when the price amps up. Is it $600? $1000? Definitely not. I feel like it’s a pretty good price for how unique and creative their braids are.

So then what’s the other option if the price is too much?

2. Fofana Express Hair Braiding

I consider this one of the creative braiding shops because of the price. Everything is $200. It doesn’t matter the length, the style – whatever. It will be $200 flat rate. So yes if you want blonde goddess braids it is $200.

I am going to be honest though that it took a while for my braids to be done I think because I only had one person working on my head although I don’t think this is always the case. Also I know there are multiple locations but at the one I was at there was no wifi. So I tell people that the experience might not be the smoothest but you get cheap braids at the end.
